The Jeep Hurricane is a concept vehicle unveiled by
Daimler-Chrysler at the 2005 North American International Auto Show. As the
Daimler-Chrysler spokesman said: "Jeep Hurricane is simply the most
maneuverable, most capable and most powerful 4x4 ever built. It pays homage to
the extreme enthusiasts' Jeep vehicles in form and off-road capability, but is
a unique interpretation of Jeep design. Why build such a vehicle? The Hurricane
also features an innovative way to combine body, power-train and suspension. The
Jeep Hurricane made its way to the public's knowledge through the 2005 North
American International Auto Show. This vehicle is known to represent the
continued success of valiant concept vehicles. There are two 5.7 liter HEMI
engines in this Jeep Hurricane. Trevor Creed, senior vice president of Chrysler
Group design, states, "Jeep Hurricane is simply the most maneuverable,
most capable, and most powerful 4x4 ever built. It pays homage to the extreme
enthusiasts' Jeep vehicles in form and off road capability, but is a unique
interpretation of Jeep design. The multi-mode four wheel steering system on
Jeep Hurricane is designed to offer enthusiasts the next level of performance
and unexpected maneuverability." The Jeep Hurricane is made from
lightweight yet strong and durable material. The Jeep Hurricane's suspension
and powertrain are also mounted directly to the body.
Innovative in style, the Jeep Hurricane included a centrally
located twin-engine transfer case, in-board brakes, drive shafts, front and
rear steering, and complete corner assemblies. The Jeep Hurricane's
Shift-by-wire mechanisms allow the wheels on one side of the vehicle to run in
reverse, which, coupled with split solid axles and 55 degrees front and rear
wheel toe-in angles, allows the vehicle to rotate around its own axis. Jeep
Hurricane 2005 has Four Wheel and Crab Steering capability, with a combination
of traditional and "steer by wire" technologies. It pays homage to
the extreme enthusiasts' Jeep vehicles in form and off-road capability, but is
a unique interpretation of Jeep design. The Jeep Hurricane concept has a
one-piece body styling made of carbon fiber, accented by the signature 7-slot
grille design with Jeep header panel on the front fascia. As expected for a
Jeep model, the Jeep Hurricane concept embodies the brand's creative and
mechanical expertise in terms of off-road vehicle handling and performance. The
Jeep Hurricane concept was the first Chrysler Group vehicle to have two
monstrous 5.7-liter HEMI engines, one in the front and one at the back. The
engine is also equipped with Chrysler Group Multi-Displacement System (MDS),
which allows the Jeep Hurricane to run on different engine displacements
including 4, 8, 12, or 16 cylinders. The Jeep Hurricane concept also features a
skid steer capability and toe steer that enables the vehicle to turn the front
and rear tires inwards.
